Retinal disorders, optic atrophy, and lesions of the higher visual pathways are the main anatomical causes of visual loss in children. WHO reports that, 65% people are estimated to be visually impaired worldwide: 82% are blind are over 50 years old and 25% have low vision. Globally, uncorrected refractive errors are the main cause of moderate and severe visual impairment; cataracts remain the leading cause of blindness in middle- and low-income countries. Yet half of the 61 million Americans are in the risk of losing their eyesight saw an eye doctor in the past 12 months.
